Monday - "Obedience"

Ephesians 6:1-4: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 "so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

I did a lot of dumb things growing up. Not because I did them intentionally...usually it was because I didn't know any better. Climb on this... jump off that... I tried it all. I made a lot of mistakes. Maybe you can relate. Then, when I became a teenager...something miraculous happened... I suddenly knew it ALL.

My parent's roles went from guiding me to learning from me (or so I thought). I had gone from student to teacher in just a short amount of time. Who needed obedience when I had freedom?

Simple answer... I did. Look at today's passage... "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." God gave me my parents to help me avoid the mistakes that they made...to learn from lessons that they received...to benefit from their life experience... Obeying my parents not only helped me learn and grow...it honored God because I was obedient to scripture...

Obedience wasn't always easy...but it was worth it. I never knew it all (even though I thought I did). However, what I know and do now is a result of my decision to follow...to listen...to obey...and to grow.

"For this is right..."
