That expression has always bothered me...I think it's because my flesh wants me to believe that 99% is good enough. Think back to school...if you scored 99% on a test, that was nearly perfect! Just 1 tiny percentage point away from everything right! In any school in the world, that would be an A...maybe even an A+... an achievement in any case.
99% is a triumph to my elementary school teacher...but is it what God asks of me?
Luke 10:25-28
The Most Important Commandment
25 One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”26 Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?” 27 The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”28 “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!”
Notice what Jesus says here...we must love God with ALL our heart and ALL of our soul and ALL of our strength and ALL of our mind. 100%. What does that mean?
What are you thinking about most?
Who do you love above all others?
Who do you turn to when you are weak?
Who holds your eternity?
What position does God hold on your priority list?
How important is God's word in your decision making?
How often do you seek God's guidance over a friend's?
How real is God to you?
How deeply do you love Him?
What are you willing to give up to follow Him?
How much do you trust Him?
I know...heavy questions for a Tuesday. But I really believe it's time to ask ourselves the tough questions... It is through honesty with ourselves and God that our relationship with Him can grow deeper. Want to REALLY live for Him? Give Him 100% of you.
