Thursday - "The Jersey"

I remember my very first year of playing flag football. I was probably 9 years old or so and had been put on the "Green Bay Packers" along with a couple of my friends. We would play Saturday games at the local park against other in-house teams.

The greatest day of the season wasn't the day I was put on the team...or the day I recovered a fumble...or the day I became homecoming prince...no, it was uniform day. The day I got to pick my number and put on that jersey for the first time. I wore it home. I wore it to school. I wore it to bed... I would still be wearing it today if I wasn't much older and wider...

I was so proud of the colors of my team. Let's look at today's passage of scripture:

Galatians 3:27 "And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes."

In today's passage, Paul writes that our baptism is similar to new clothing. He says that once we take that step of faith in baptism, we "put on Christ." What does that mean?

It means that when people see us...they are seeing Jesus. We are wearing the "God jersey"...representing Christ to a wondering world. When you come up out of the waters of baptism, you are declaring to everyone that you are part of God's family...that you have made a prior decision to follow Christ as Lord and Savior...and you want them to know it!

If you have never been baptized, and have accepted Christ as Lord, I want to directly challenge you to take that step of obedience and sign up for Beach Baptism on April 12th down here in S. Fla. Simply go to www.flamingoroadchurch.com/beachbaptism for all of the details.

If you have already been baptized, I would like you to spend this morning thinking back to that event in your life... what it felt like inside... that passion that you had for Jesus... Take a few moments and ask God to renew you once again...to remind you that you are wearing the colors of the "God team."

See you tomorrow,
Pastor Brian
