Acts 1:14 "They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers."
There used to be an animated show on called Voltron. I only occasionally watched it, but I remember the premise. Each of the main characters piloted these "lion" machines around and when trouble happened...they all joined their machines together to form one large machine called Voltron. Separate they were very powerful...but together, as Voltron the giant robot, they were nearly unbeatble.
Voltron came to mind this morning when I read this passage from Acts 1. Weird, I know...but stay with me. I love this passage because of what it doesn't say. It doesn't say that each of the apostles kept praying after Jesus ascended to Heaven...even though you know they did. Some would say that is good enough...each of the disciples stayed faithful...kept praying...and readied themselves for the return of the Christ. Look carefully at the passage again...
"They all joined together constantly in prayer..."
All of their powerful prayers came together. They didn't just have personal quiet times...they joined together in corporate prayer. Constantly. Alone, their prayers were strong. Together, in unified prayer, their strength was nearly unstoppable.
Are you praying with anyone? Do you have people that you can get with to lift up prayer concerns and celebrate God's blessings with? If you are married...are you joining together with your spouse to pray? If you are a student, do you pray with a group of like-minded students? If you are single, are you in a small group or Bible study? The power of an individual prayer is amazing...but the benefit of a collaborative prayer effort is unbelievable. When you are connected to a group with common prayer concerns, you get to bear the burdens together....as well as celebrate the sweet victories.
This morning, think of someone else or a group of someone elses to pray with...join up with them...and take on the world.
See you tomorrow,
Pastor Brian
